PARSA honours the best presenters at every PARSA conference. There are 3 awards for posters (first-time presenter, senior student, and veteran) and 3 awards for oral presentations (first-time presenter, senior student, and veteran).
Criteria:
The first-time presenter is anyone (not only students) who is presenting a poster/presentation for the first time at a national conference. If he/she has already presented at an international conference he/she is also eliminated.
The senior student is any full-time student who has already presented on a national or international level before and is not employed on a full-time basis.
The veteran presenter is anyone who has already presented on a national or international level before and is employed on a full-time basis, irrespective of whether he/she is registered for post-grad studies or not.
Oral presentations are judged on their presentation and handling of questions in the 15 minute time allocation.
Poster presentations are judged on the physical poster, a speed session presentation (3 minutes) of the poster (if applicable) and handling of questions (total of 5 minutes).

PARSA members can apply to the PARSA Council for financial support towards a marketing or outreach event that specifically focuses on promoting the field of Parasitology among scholars, postgraduate students and or established researchers. Examples of the type of events are school visits, workshops and campus visits. This support offers PARSA members an opportunity to host events that will market and or build capacity in one or several parasitology fields.
Conditions of the award:
- An amount of R10 000 will be made available for a maximum of five applications received in the calendar year.
- Support will be limited to R2 000 per applicant. However, the committee will also consider requests for larger amounts if the application justifies the support.
- The applicant must be a PARSA member.
- The evaluation committee reserves the right not to award the funding if, in their opinion, the applications do not warrant it.
- PARSA must be acknowledged as a sponsor in reports and other related documents.
- Payment will only be made when all application documentation is received and approved by the evaluation committee.
