LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

East London is the gateway to the Wild Coast of Africa, iconic wildlife, and perfect waves. It is South Africa’s only river port city in the Eastern Cape Province, with over 267,000 residents. The top attractions of this destination include the Mercedes-Benz Coastal Education and Visitor Centre at Nahoon Point Nature Reserve, which is home to The Reef Cafe and a small Surfing Museum.

Other attractions include the East London Aquarium, Orient and Nahoon Beaches, Hemingways Mall, the magnificent East London Golf Club, host to the South Africa Open on numerous occasions.  For a walk on the wild side, visit our Premier Resort Mpongo Private Game Reserve or explore coastal hikes, horse trails, some gentle river paddling and awesome surfing.

There are great cultural attractions, the natural history museum where one can see the only dodo egg in existence and the first specimen of a Coelacanth – there’s a great exhibit outlining the history of this awesome prehistoric fish, previously known only from the fossil record, it was assumed to be extinct, and is believed to be the missing link between aquatic and terrestrial animals.
